We’re taking on the Great Movement Challenge to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society

This June, we’re joining the Great Movement Challenge in partnership with Go Joe, to help raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

After the success of our step challenges from previous years, we found these were great for getting us moving, but this year we wanted to take the challenge a step further! There are plenty of other ways to get moving, whether it’s a pilates class, a bike ride, or going for a swim, and GoJoe bring us all together in a digital space and allows us to record a wide range of activities!

So, what is the Great Movement Challenge?

The challenge is a friendly, team-based virtual activity competition. From Monday, 3 June to Sunday, 30 June, our teams across the Group will track the various activities they take in, earning  points along the way.

The challenge is not only a great way to promote teamwork (with a little bit of friendly competition!), but is also something that everyone, regardless of their fitness level, can take part in.

The Aim of the Challenge

The Great Movement Challenge has a few core goals:

  • Creating a community where we all move more together.
  • Building healthier minds and bodies.
  • Raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Partnering with Go Joe

Go Joe is a platform designed to get any ‘ordinary joe’ moving more. It’s accessible to everyone, encouraging progress no matter where you start on your fitness journey. What makes Go Joe special is their wealth of motivational resources tailored for all fitness levels, ensuring everyone stays inspired and engaged throughout the challenge.

Exciting Team Challenges and Prizes

There will be prizes up for grabs along the way for both individuals and team with the most points.

To keep things interesting, there are several mini-challenges within the main event:

  • Eager Beaver: For those who love to start their day with a burst of activity.
  • Night Owl: Perfect for the night-time exercisers.
  • The Slammer: A challenge for the most dedicated and consistent participants.
  • Woodpecker: For those who can’t resist repeating the same exercise- hey, each to their own!

Prizes up for grabs include a Whoop tracker band, Beats wireless headphones, a National Trust gift card, and Hello Fresh vouchers.

Why We’re Doing This

By participating in the Great Movement Challenge, we’re not just getting fitter and healthier; we’re also supporting a cause that impacts many lives. As the UK’s leading dementia charity, the Alzheimer’s Society tackles all aspects of dementia by giving help and hope to people living with dementia today and in the future. The funds we raise from ther Great Movement Challenge will help them continue their vital research and support services.

When the team hit each milestone, a donation will be made from the company’s Great Idea’s Grant- a pot of money set aside each year for community initiatives.

As Hayley Plimley, our Director of Marketing and Communications, puts it, “This challenge is a fantastic opportunity for us to come together as a team, get active, and support a cause that is incredibly important to our team. It’s not just about the competition; it’s about making a positive impact on our health and in our community. Community is one of our core values, and this challenge allows us to collaborate effectively in a fun and healthy way where everyone can take part, whilst raising funds for our chosen charity, Alzheimer’s Society.”
