Rebecca Thorley - DJH Business Advisers

Rebecca Thorley

Client Services Director, Stoke-on-Trent

After working as a bank manager in training for a few years and deciding this wasn’t for me, I went back to my favourite subject from my A-levels – maths! – to see how I could get a job doing something I enjoyed and I thought accountancy sounded like fun. As I’m quite determined when I have an idea in my head, I rang every accountancy firm I could find in the local area to see if they had any jobs going and was lucky enough to be offered a role at a local accountancy practice in Crewe in 2010.

I qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor during this time, before starting my journey with DJH in 2017 which was a shock to the system. DJH were unlike any other firm I had worked for – in a good way – and operated in a completely different way than a traditional firm, but I’ve loved every second of it.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with some great business owners during this time and learnt a lot along the way. My particular passion is for corporate finance work so business valuations, gaining external investment, helping my clients acquire other businesses to grow or clients selling on their own business when they have decided the time is right for them. It can be hard work but very rewarding when you help your clients achieve their dreams!

  • What makes DJH great is…

Our ambition is to be great for our clients so that we can help them along the way on their own journey. There is a vast and diverse wealth of experience in the team meaning we either already have the answer for you, or we know the person who will.

  • My most trusted piece of advice in business is…

Have confidence in your own decisions – you know your business better than anyone else and know how to succeed, grow and achieve your goals. My role is to guide you through these decisions, try to make life easier for you and make sure you don’t fall foul of any tax pitfalls along the way.

  • On a Saturday morning, you’ll usually find me…

Either sweating out the stress of the week at the gym, trying and failing to learn Italian or enjoying a long leisurely brunch.
