James Chappell
Associate Tax Director, Halesowen
I started my career as an accounts trainee before venturing into the world of tax, where I have now worked for over 20 years. As a member of The Chartered Institute of Taxation and The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, I head up the Private Client Tax function for the Halesowen office.
I specialise in all areas of Private Client Taxation, including Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax, Residency Issues, Inheritance Tax and Trusts and Estates. What I enjoy most is meeting clients, understanding their needs, and translating complex tax matters into straightforward, actionable advice that builds long-standing relationships.

What makes DJH great is
The people. We have a fantastic team who all support each other to make sure we provide the best possible service to our clients. Through great advice, we support individuals and businesses in achieving their goals – and that collaborative spirit makes all the difference.

My most trusted piece of advice in business is
Empower your team and foster a culture of trust. Delegate tasks and allow team members to develop their skills and take ownership of their work. Tax is a career where communication skills are just as valuable as numeracy skills, and the best results come when everyone feels valued and empowered.

On a Saturday morning you'll usually find me
Hitting the gym, going for a long walk, or providing a taxi service for one of my three teenage children! Family life keeps me busy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way – it’s all about finding that balance between staying active and being there when they need me.
