Colin Barrett
Head of IT
I joined as Head of IT at DJH in 2024, with over 25 years’ combined experience working with both Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and Internet Service Providers (ISPs). My career in IT stems back to the dot-com boom, when dial-up internet was at the cutting edge, and the floppy disk was the removable media of choice.
You might consider me an early adopter of “the cloud”, as it became a popular household name in the early 2000s. Over the years I’ve led numerous cloud transformation projects, enabling businesses of all shapes and sizes to leverage the full potential of cloud computing. I have a proven track record of optimising IT infrastructure, enhancing operational efficiency, and driving cost savings through effective cloud adoption.
As Head of IT for the DJH group, my time is predominantly focused on driving technical innovation, optimising IT operations, and ensuring the group’s IT infrastructure supports its strategic goals. You will find me working with our internal tech and security teams to oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of our IT systems in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment. As we continue to grow, my “prime directive” is to ensure that our IT infrastructure is reliable, secure, and scalable.

What makes DJH great is…
The appetite to innovative and adopt new emerging tech, is something which attracted me to DJH.
Working with a knowledgeable and passionate team, makes technology adoption so much more achievable. Investment in this technology allows DJH to maintain a competitive edge in the market.

My most trusted piece of advice in business is…
Purchasing and turning on new technology is relatively easy. However, to ensure successful end-user adoption of new technology, all business owners and department leads need to consider comprehensive end-user awareness training and support, with clear, effective communication, and buy-in from stakeholders at all levels – without it, you will never foster a positive change culture.

On a Saturday morning, you’ll usually find me…
Whenever possible, I will be on a campsite, with our converted campervan which we’ve named “Timmy”. Heading out into the hills on a long hike, is my happy place – ideally with a pub and a roaring fire, serving a nice pint, at the end of it.
Either that, or I’ll be doing my chores around the house, or taking on the latest DIY project… there’s always a room which needs decorating, or something that needs fixing!
