We go a step beyond for Heart Health Month

February was Heart Health month at DJH Mitten Clarke and we certainly went the extra step to make it a memorable one for our team.

Across the group, 99 members of our team took part in The British Heart Foundation’s ‘My Step Challenge’, to see how many steps we could walk and run throughout the month, with prizes for those who managed the most.

Using activity tracker app, Pacer, each step was recorded and shown on a league table, adding a sense of competitiveness to the challenge with individual departments debating who would come out on top.

We certainly got creative getting those extra steps in, some took the longer route to work, meetings became walking meetings, and discussions of where to get the best walking boots were heard in the office.

A lot of the team found a new found love for the great outdoors, new walking trails were discovered, social media uploads were awash of scenic landscapes and dogs have never been happier with all the extended walkies they had!

On top of that, we helped raise £1,000 for the British Heat Foundation, thanks to the fantastic fundraising efforts of our team, which also included a ‘Wear it Red’ day across each office and a lunch and learn session where we learnt all about keeping your heart healthy.

So, how far did our team go? In total, we walked an enormous 18.5 million steps during the month. That means, if we had set out from our office in Stoke-on-Trent, and presuming the oceans wouldn’t be a problem, we would be walking through the outback in Australia!

The winners all came from our Moco team (there must be something in the water in Chester!) with trainee accountant Tom Owens claiming the top prize, taking home a brand-new Fitbit, after amassing over 700,000 steps!
