Great news for lacrosse lovers! The International Olympic Committee has officially announced that lacrosse will return to the Olympics, making its comeback at the LA 2028 games for the first time since 1908.
As a proud sponsor of the Mellor Lacrosse Junior Team, we’re thrilled about this news. Our very own David Wright not only excels in Commercial Funding, he also manages Mellor’s Under 12 Lacrosse team for the Stockport based club.
Mellor Lacrosse Club is dedicated to growing the game by providing training and events for both children within the Club and local schools from ages 6 to 16. Mellor has been successful in developing players to go on to represent their country on the international stage. Whilst the game continues to become increasingly popular, securing the necessary funding to provide children access to lacrosse can be challenging.
Our sponsorship will play a crucial role in offering young people access to lacrosse, fostering their interest in the sport, and helping equip young players with the necessary kit for competing out on the field.
We’ve supported Mellor Lacrosse Club through our Great Ideas Grants program, an annual fund earmarked to support social and environmental initiatives within the communities near our offices. David’s strategic use of the grant demonstrates his recognition of the sports potential in the local community. Who knows, perhaps soon, we’ll witness some rising stars from Mellor Lacrosse Juniors representing their country on the Olympic stage. We couldn’t be prouder to be a part of their journey.
David expressed his enthusiasm, “I’m thrilled to hear lacrosse has been named as an Olympic sport, especially since there are only 5 new additions for 2028. It’s a fantastic game and we have lots of incredible talent coming through. Mellor Lacrosse is operated by volunteers all dedicating their time to help lacrosse grow in the local community. I’m grateful for the continued support from DJH Mitten Clarke, helping us to train the future generation of Olympians!”
